Halifax 3 - 0 FC Buxton

FC Buxton tuned up in Halifax with 10 men due to Utility Corbett having a small altercation in a local garage (enough said).  He arrived just in time for kick off so we had a full 11 to compete with.  It was a lovely sunny day and the ground was very dry and hard.  The pitch had a superb slope going right across it and the ref greeted us all with his cheery disposition.  It was nice to see a proper ref after most away games this season not having one and the games quite often descend in to a debacle, for the record he had a good game too.  I got told off for shouting at my own player (guess who) and using foul language, just informing me there were kids on the sideline, like I said nice guy!

FC Buxton started off with a 4-5-1 formation due to player restrictions with Micky P moving in to midfield and Gav playing at the back.  James took the role as lone striker and soon showed his vision and touch.  He held the ball up well and ’30 Yard’ Dren hit his trademark shot which look goal bound all the way only for a Halifax keeper to be diving like a salmon to his left to tip the shot on to the bar!

Halifax had a lot of the ball and played some good stuff, they had a break and Gav was caught out of position leaving Captain Moss with 2 men bounding down on him, he tried his best but they got a shot away which his the inside of the Cats near post and hit the inside of the side netting on the other side 1-0.  Halifax then started to smell the blood, hitting the wood work a couple of times.

Half time arrived and the team talk from Merse was encouraging.  1-0 at half time away from him with only 11 players was not a bad score line.  Reverting to the more familiar 4-4-2 formation in the 2nd half with Micky ‘the rock’ P dropping back in to central defence and Gav going back up front, Kyle joined him and James dropped to the right wing.

Some early pressure from Halifax led to a cross coming in from the wing, the Cat was worried about his poorly toe and hoped it was going wide.  It wasn’t 2-0.  FC Buxton continued with the hard work and it looked like it was just going to be one of those days, Halifax soon made it 3-0 when they broke through, the Cat made a good save low to his left but couldn’t hold the shot and the Halifax striker followed it up making no mistake and buried it! 3-0.

FC Buxton kept going and a ball fell to Utility Corbett on the edge of the area, he swung his left foot (normally used for standing only) and caught the ball perfectly.  You have guessed it the Halifax keeper was there and tipped it over the bar, this was a text book volley and again Corbie didn’t get what he deserved!  Will he ever score again?!?

The game finished 3-0 and Halifax deserved the win on the day though it was by no means easy for them.  The 2 old guys at the back had outstanding games never missing a thing, the keeper played well and they took their chances superbly.

Comedy moment of the match came in the 2nd half when Utility Corbett had broken the offside trap, Dren played a ball right to his feet which tripped him up!  Couple that with a very hard and dry pitch he has some superb cuts on his knees!

This week’s congratulations go to the Halifax player John Barnes who successfully managed to control his bowels properly, unlike after the game earlier in the season at Buxton when he managed to follow through in the car on the way home!  Well done mate Tongue out
