FC Buxton 4- 3 Forever Bury FC

There were a few frights for FC Bucks, this past Halloween Saturday, as the FC took on supporter’s football most experienced side, Bury FC. The Bucks supporters team were somewhat under strength, with Martin ‘The Cat’ Turner expanding his property empire, JLS Wright suffering from a training / hilarious incident, Mossman still trying to crack Wales and rumours circulating that Merse was body doubling for Usain Bolts latest advert.

These absentness, were coupled with SJC Corbett’s midweek swine flu scare. However being the solider he is Corbo was present and correct, as well as single handedly shattering the myth that Swine Flu makes you lose weight quickly. There was also a welcome return to the FC ranks fro wee little Tom Forder, who arrived in style.

The first half was played a fast and furious pace, with both teams having plenty of possession but having no real chances to show. It was FC who came closest to opening the scoring after ‘the playboy’ Hollins was brought down on the edge of the box. With the keeper rooted to the spot, Dren saw his free kick come back off the square bar, only to rebound to the Kaiser Cheese’s very own Bettsy who saw his goal bound shot blocked by his own man(Stu). However FC’s top scorer Dren was to be denied for long, when following a hopeful through ball by birthday boy Bammer, a vintage first touch / shot combo from the DJ saw Bucks take a 0ne to zero lead.

Corbett then had a chance to double Bucks lead, but could not continue his lucky goal scoring run when a snap shot drifted wide. A relief for all those dreading another cartwheel celebration. Buxtons lead however was short lived, when following a double nutmeg on Forder, Bury worked the ball well down the left, to fire home past Redburn to take a 1-1 score into the break.

FC came out for the second half knowing the next goal would be key, however it was Bury who nearly gained the upper hand, but a superb last ditch tackle from emergency and possible regular left back Bolton kept the scores level. Bolton along with fellow full back Betts, and centre halfs Gould and Redfern were excellent throughout against a tricky Bury front line. With Betts in particular keeping Burys key man at bay.Despite Tiff putting in his regular chocolate fireguard performance, FC were now winning battles all over the pitch, and this soon showed after they doubled there advantage when following good work from Dren and Bammer, Caley drifted in at the back post to make it 2-1. Two shortly became three, when Hollins, possibly inspired by the new WAG in his life found Forder, who after setting himself and a slight (major) deflection fired past the helpless Bury stopper. Buxton’s excellent second half performance was capped off with a fourth, when following a clearance by Gould, Forder was set free, seeing another deflected effort ending up in the roof of the net.

What followed was somewhat classic FC Bucks, with the Bucks conceding two quick goals in succession to make it 4-3 and the last twenty minutes edgey. However both Redfern and Gould marshaled the defence excellently with there being more tricks than treats. Buxton had numerous chances to put the game out of site with Caley, Forder, Dren and Bammer all firing over from close range. Although there defence it was wasting more time.

As referee Large blew for full time, it was somewhat of a relief, however a mix of excellent defending and attractive forward play saw Buxton maintain there unbeaten home record leading into next weeks clash with FC United FC. It was then off to the Silverlands for some more Halloween football. Birthday boy Bammer cashed in his free bus pass for the first time to get there whilst Bettsy was refused entry for wearing a Halloween mask….later to be revealed as not a mask.

Up the FC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
