FC Buxton 3- 6 Sheff UtdOn a pitch more akin to Causeway lake than Fairfield centre Fc Buxton lost their unbeaten record to their much sharper counterparts from Sheffield. It all started so brightly with Kyle ' Berba' Hollins controlling a Drennan cross in the six yard box and turning like a spinning top to fire home through the lake on the goal line to give FC an early lead after 30 seconds. From there on in it all went one way as the Blades burst FC's bubble. Two crosses from the Blades were blown over the helpless Redburn in goal in quick succession to give them a quick fire lead, and within another ten the result looked in little doubt as time after time the Bucks were sliced open at will and some decisive finishing from the men in red and white put Buxton to the sword and ended the half in a 5-1 lead. After stern words from gaffer Corbett at half time the Bucks came out for the 2nd half ready to right the wrongs from the 1st half and Tiff took over in goal and got panto season off to a great start with his best David James impression coming out to collect two through balls and juggling them beautifully on the swamp showing us all what his community coaching courses are really like!!! The Blades struck again from a set piece as the defence failed to follow their runners and a near post in swinger was eventually bundled in after Tiff had made a good save onto the post. In the past FC would have hit the self destruct button but there is a better steel about them these days and they played some good football for the remainder of the 2nd half with Forder the pick of the attackers showing his dribbling ability time after time. Hollins blazed over from 18 yards and the returning Micky P playing as an emergency striker had a good chance that was snuffed out, then Forder went on a mazy run but couldn't get the ball out of his feet to put his shot away as the mud played havoc. Drennan also fired over as he did his finest Peter Kay impression from a Blades goal kick ('ave it!) then Caley broke down the left and put in a perfect cross for Micky P to score with a bullet header at the near post and suddenly the Bucks sensed blood again, alas it was coming from Goulds nose as he shot, only to test the sturdiness of the corner flag! The Blades went up field again and a through ball was latched on to by their striker who attempted to lob Tiff from 25 yards out but he put up a big hand to stop the shot and pounced on the rebound before the next blades attack when he saved again and Merse tracked his man across the area then scythed him down with a last ditch tackle that had the opposition screaming penalty only for referee Chris ( Taylor ) Large to wave away the protests leaving Merse with some brown stuff in his shorts but mightily relieved. FC finished strongly and Bolton forced his way into the area with 5 minutes left to stroke in a 3rd and no more than FC deserved, but for some woeful finishing from the Bucks this game could have finished 9-9 and caretaker gaffer Tiff will have to rally his troops for next weekends grudge match at Ilkeston as Corbett is off on holiday with his better half |
