Caley misses hatful as FC Bucks run riot...

FC Buxton 7 – 0 Whitby Wanderers.

FC Buxton  got back into the swing of things on Saturday morning at a chilly Fairfield Centre, as three own goals helped them on their way to an impressive 7-0 victory. In only their second game in 11 weeks,  FC took control of the game from the off against their long-distance visitors, and even the wastefulness of young Dominic Caley did nothing to take the shine off the victory.

The gaffer had a strong squad to choose from, despite the absence of FC regulars in Turner, Bainbridge, Betts and Bolton. Betts missed his first game of the season for the Bucks, after suffering a scratched ankle in his last outing at Port Vale. Despite the best efforts of a celebrity physio, he was forced to watch from the sidelines. Hollins returned after a long battle with weekend shifts.

The line-up read as follows:  Redburn (GK). Redfern. Gould. Moss. Merse. Drennan. Tiff. Stu. Caley. Hollins. Crimmins. Subs: Reginaldo and JLS (fresh from his recent JLS ticket-scam drama). Due to the opposition arriving a player short, Hallman donned the white of Whitby for the day.

Despite the early pressure, it took the Bucks a while to find their stride, with examples of rustiness all over the pitch. The pressure paid off, however, around the 20 minute mark as a cross from the left caught the Wanderers’ centre half unawares, the ball deflecting in of his shins for the first goal of the game. 1-0.

From then on, the Bucks played with a sense of urgency and it was not long until the floodgates opened. As all the world anticipated a Merse piledriver, step-brotherly intuition kicked in, as Berba beat the offside trap to get on the end of Merse’s dink and nod in from close range. Taylor Snr arrived minutes too late for this proud family moment, but it is sure to go down in Hollins-Taylor folklore. 2-0.

The third followed shortly after through another own goal, with Hollins trying to claim his second of the game, despite the obvious tackle from the Whitby defender  which had diverted the ball over the line. Referee Large put it down in his notepad as an ‘O-G’, who was slowly becoming an FC Buxton fans’ favourite. 3-0.

Crimmins got himself on the scoresheet shortly before half time, as a cross from the impressive Drennan was nodded in at the far post. The FC Bucks were cruising their way to the half-time interval. 4-0.

Utility showboating!Amongst all of this Caley had the chances to make it 5,6 and 7. He was reminded at the break of the white rectangles at either end of each pitch. Corbett had also wowed the crowd with his usual showboating...

HT 4-0.

Gaffer Stu freshened things up at the break, with brothers Caley and Crimmins coming off for Reginaldo and JLS Wright. The boss risked a Merse nose-bleed by pushing him up to left midfield, with Reg slotting in at fullback. JLS took his place alongside Hollins upfront, showing the crowd his latest JLS moves as he waited for the referee’s command to begin the second half..

Number five soon came as hatrick hero ‘O-G’ again found the back of the net, this time in spectacular fashion, as a 30 yard strike from Dren rattled the crossbar before coming down and hitting the unfortunate Whitby keeper on the back and dropping into the net. 5-0. Caley had since returned to the pitch at the expense of the tiring Berba, and took his opportunity to miss a couple more sitters with both hands..

Crimmins also returned to the pitch for the ‘bored’ Mosschops and wasted no time in grabbing his second of the game, a fierce drive from the edge of the box after the ball was only partially cleared following a Bucks corner. 6-0.

FC then rounded things off in style, as good work from Crimmins on the right saw the ball fall at the feet of JLS. His neat layoff to Caley then saw the ball slipped through to Drennan, whose cool finish left the impressive Whitby goalkeeper with no chance. 7-0.

The final whistle blew and the Fans Collective had got their first victory of 2010, which despite it being mid-February was at only their second attempt of the year. They now looked forward with renewed optimism, and will hopefully be able to build on this victory in the coming weeks with a more consistent run of games.
